El-Rufai Family Alleges ICPC Forgery and Political Harassment

Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai that is the  former Kaduna State Governor relatives have pushed back strongly against recent actions by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), describing the agency’s investigation as unfair and politically influenced.

In a fresh statement issued in Abuja by Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, who represents Kaduna North in the House of Representatives, the family faulted the Commission’s public claims that incriminating devices were uncovered at a property said to be connected to the former governor.

According to the statement, the anti-graft agency’s narrative misrepresents what actually occurred during the search. The family maintained that officials removed only personal electronic items such as phones and computers, many of which they described as outdated. They dismissed reports suggesting the recovery of surveillance or interception gadgets, calling such assertions inaccurate and sensational.

They also addressed allegations that the former governor has been uncooperative with investigators. The family argued that exercising the right to remain silent or to refrain from public commentary during an ongoing inquiry is protected by law and should not be interpreted as resistance. They insisted that if authorities possess solid evidence, the appropriate course of action would be to file charges in court rather than make public accusations.

Furthermore, the family raised concerns about the legal process behind the operation, questioning whether proper procedures were followed in obtaining authorization for the search. They revealed that their legal representatives are reviewing the circumstances and have taken steps to challenge any perceived irregularities through the courts.

The statement accused the Commission of damaging reputations through what it described as premature disclosures and media briefings. It warned that such actions risk undermining public trust in anti-corruption efforts, particularly when investigations appear to be conducted in the glare of publicity rather than within established legal frameworks.

Despite their criticism, the family expressed confidence that the judiciary would independently assess the matter and ensure that justice prevails. They reiterated their commitment to resolving the dispute through lawful channels and avoiding a public war of words.

In conclusion, the family affirmed their determination to safeguard their integrity and defend against what they believe to be unfounded claims. They urged the anti-corruption body to approach its duties with neutrality, professionalism, and strict respect for due process, emphasizing that accountability must always be pursued in a manner that upholds fairness and the rule of law.
