As the first local adaptation of the world-famous reality cooking franchise, MasterChef Nigeria is set to redefine the nation’s culinary landscape by offering passionate amateurs the chance to turn their kitchen skills into life-changing opportunities. According to an official statement, the winner of the competition will walk away with a massive ₦73 million prize and the historic title of Nigeria’s first-ever MasterChef. Applications for the show are currently open, with entries scheduled to close on 27 February 2026.

The programme will be broadcast on DStv via Africa Magic Showcase and Africa Magic Family, ensuring wide access for viewers across the country and beyond. MasterChef Nigeria also becomes part of the global MasterChef television franchise, which is represented internationally by Banijay Entertainment, the entertainment giant behind iconic formats such as Big Brother and Survivor. Recognised by Guinness World Records as the most successful cookery show in history, the franchise boasts more than 700 seasons and over 16,000 episodes aired worldwide.

Speaking on the launch, Tamara van Eeckhoven, Managing Director at Primedia Africa, described MasterChef Nigeria as a landmark achievement for Nigerian television. She noted that the show will celebrate the nation’s diverse cuisine and vibrant food culture, while identifying, mentoring, and nurturing future generations of outstanding Nigerian chefs.

Also commenting on the development, Kemi Omotosho, Chief Executive Officer of Africa Magic, said the programme reflects the company’s commitment to investing in premium local content that showcases Nigeria’s creativity and cultural richness to audiences across Africa and the world. The competition will feature home cooks from across the country competing in a series of demanding culinary challenges that test creativity, technique, flavour, and presentation. Contestants will prepare both traditional and modern dishes inspired by Nigeria’s rich culinary heritage, while meeting global culinary standards. Judges renowned Nigerian chefs to be announced later will assess each challenge, with the last contestant standing crowned MasterChef Nigeria and awarded the ₦73 million grand prize.
