A dispute over a purchased iPhone escalated into a confrontation involving soldiers and a shop owner at Banex Plaza in Abuja. Eyewitnesses reported tension as the soldiers allegedly intimidated the owner. The dispute reportedly stemmed from the purchase of an iPhone 15 Pro Max over a six-month period, with the buyers alleging battery swelling due to overcharging.

The situation escalated when five individuals, three in uniform and two in civilian clothing, confronted the shop owner. Despite attempts to settle the matter, tensions rose as the soldiers allegedly attempted to intimidate the shop owner, who stood his ground despite the age disparity.

In response to the escalating situation, a colleague of the shop owner went to seek assistance from the Banex Plaza police. However, the soldiers refused to comply with the police’s instructions and reportedly assaulted one of the officers when he intervened.

In the chaos that ensued, tear gas was deployed by the police to disperse the crowd. As the gas dissipated, witnesses reported a retaliatory attack by other individuals present at the scene against the soldiers.

Following the altercation, a significant number of soldiers arrived at Banex Plaza and closed the gates, effectively shutting down the area. They dispersed the crowd and instructed everyone to leave the premises.

The closure of Banex Plaza by the soldiers has heightened tensions in the area, with many residents expressing concern over the heavy-handed response. Authorities are currently working to de-escalate the situation and restore normalcy to the area.

Stay tuned for further updates on this unfolding story as investigations continue into the events at Banex Plaza.
