The recent passing of Olorogun Barr Kenneth Omemavwa Gbagi, FNIM OON, the gubernatorial candidate representing the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the most recent Delta State election, has been confirmed. Gbagi, who served as a former Minister of Education and distinguished industrialist, passed away at the age of 62.

This esteemed criminologist and senior lawyer breathed his last on Saturday, May 4th, 2024. In a statement released by his eldest son, Chief Emuoboh Gbagi, on behalf of the Gbagi family, they announced with deep sorrow, yet gratitude to the divine, the departure of their cherished patriarch, Olorogun (Barr.) Kenneth Omemavwa Gbagi, FNIM, OON. He peacefully departed this life on May 4th, 2024, at the age of 62.

The family finds solace in reminiscing about Gbagi’s life, his notable accomplishments, and the profound influence he wielded over numerous individuals and communities. In this trying time of loss, they humbly ask for thoughts and prayers from all who knew him.

The statement concludes with a heartfelt plea for Gbagi’s soul to find eternal tranquility, reflecting the family’s earnest desire for his peaceful rest.

The 62-year-old criminologist and lawyer from Delta State ran as the governorship candidate for the Social Democratic Party in the 2023 Delta State election. He also served as a Minister of State for Education.

Born in Sapele in 1961, he attended schools in Delta State and Lagos before pursuing further education abroad. After returning to Nigeria, he worked at the Police College in Ikeja during his National Youth Service and later excelled in law school at the University of Lagos. He has investments in various companies in Nigeria, including GKO Group of Companies, Geekos Investments, Woodridge Hotels Group, and Robinson Shopping Plaza in Warri.
