The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA) to improve access to weather and climate information for smallholder farmers across Nigeria.

The agreement, formalized at NiMet’s headquarters, aims to expand agro-meteorological information services to rural communities. This partnership builds on an existing collaboration that began in 2010, reflecting a renewed commitment to climate data delivery and grassroots resilience.

Sulaimon Arigbabu, Executive Secretary of HEDA Resource Centre, and Tonye Dappa, Legal and Liaison Officer, were present at the signing. They praised NiMet’s Director-General, Professor Charles Anosike, for his continued support.

Furthermore, Professor Anosike emphasized the importance of partnerships in bridging the gap between climate science and rural action. He also offered NiMet’s media studios for creating educational content tailored to farmers.

The partnership seeks to improve early warning systems, promote sustainable and climate-smart agriculture, and strengthen Nigeria’s resilience to climate change. Both organizations reaffirmed their dedication to ensuring inclusive and widespread access to vital climate information.
