Eid al-Adha Set for June 6

Saudi Arabia has officially announced the sighting of the crescent moon, marking the beginning of Dhul Hijjah, the 12th and final month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

According to an update shared on Tuesday by Haramain Sharifain via X (formerly Twitter), Dhul Hijjah 1446 will commence on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

The announcement includes the following significant dates in the Islamic calendar:

• First Day of Dhul Hijjah – Wednesday, May 28, 2025
• The Day of Arafah – Thursday, June 5, 2025
• Eid al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice) – Friday, June 6, 2025

The Day of Arafah, observed on June 5, holds deep spiritual importance. It marks the pinnacle of the Hajj pilgrimage, as millions of pilgrims gather at Mount Arafat in devotion and prayer.

Following this sacred day is Eid al-Adha, one of Islam’s most important celebrations. Observed by Muslims around the world, it commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) unwavering faith and willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command.

In line with the tradition, Haramain Sharifain also shared the iconic Talbiyah recited by pilgrims entering the state of ihram:

“Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayk la sharika laka Labbayk. Innal hamda, wan-ni’mata, laka wal-mulk, la sharika lak.”

(“Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Verily, all praise, grace, and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.”)

This early declaration gives Muslims worldwide the opportunity to spiritually and practically prepare for the blessed days ahead—whether embarking on Hajj, observing acts of charity, engaging in worship, or preparing for the symbolic sacrifice of livestock during Eid.
