African Action Congress (AAC) presidential flagbearer, Omoyele Sowore, has alleged that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), is privately instructing his followers to support African Democratic Congress (ADC) contender Atiku Abubakar.
Naija News reports that Sowore made the claim in a Facebook post, where he raised questions about Obi’s political moves and his alleged association with the former vice president.
The AAC candidate accused Obi of encouraging his supporters to rally behind Atiku, alleging that both politicians were working against his revolutionary agenda.
Sowore, who is also a human rights campaigner, further claimed that Obi was seeking to secure a prominent government appointment should Atiku win the presidency in a future election.
According to him, the former Anambra State governor was positioning himself to become Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) under an Atiku-led administration.
In his post, Sowore described Obi as a “packaged fraud” and alleged that the NDC candidate was discreetly mobilising his supporters in favour of the ADC presidential hopeful.
He wrote: “If you haven’t noticed, the packaged fraud, Mr. Peter Obi is secretly directing his supporters to work for @Atiku Abubakar because they are opposed to our revolutionary mandate. Obi is positioning himself to become Atiku’s SGF.”
Sowore’s comments centred on his concerns about the political relationships and alliances involving opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general election. However, the allegations regarding Obi’s alleged support for Atiku and his purported ambition to become SGF were claims made by Sowore.
In a related development, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has disclosed plans to inaugurate its presidential campaign council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party announced that the inauguration would take place on October 20 as preparations intensify for the forthcoming electoral contest.
NDC National Chairman, Cleopas Zuwoghe, disclosed the development during a press conference held in Abuja on Saturday.
Zuwoghe explained that the party had already developed an organisational structure for the campaign council but was still holding consultations with its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, before completing the appointment process.
He stated that the discussions were necessary to ensure that individuals selected for various positions would demonstrate commitment to the party and contribute positively to its electoral objectives.
The NDC chairman also emphasised the importance of carefully considering the loyalties of prospective appointees to prevent internal disagreements or conflicting interests from affecting the party’s campaign.
According to him, the party intends to conclude the consultations before announcing the final list of officials who will serve on the campaign council.
The planned inauguration represents part of the NDC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election, as political parties begin organising their campaign structures and identifying individuals who will oversee their activities.
The development comes amid growing political discussions and realignments among opposition figures seeking to challenge the ruling party in the next general election.
