The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has denied reports of a strained relationship with Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, declaring that both politicians remain on good terms.
He made the clarification on Saturday at the burial service of late politician Dan Osi Orbih in Ogbona, within Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State.
Wike assured attendees that there was no dispute between him and the governor, maintaining that their partnership would continue without disruption.
“There is no problem between me and the governor; we are very close; we work together and we will continue to work together,” the minister stated.
He dismissed insinuations of a rift between them, insisting that reports of a disagreement did not reflect the state of their relationship.
Wike equally praised Okpebholo for taking delivery of Orbih’s remains and visiting his home in Benin City to honour the late politician.
Recounting his experience at the funeral, the minister said seeing the casket made the loss of his close associate more difficult to bear. He appealed for prayers and encouragement for the deceased’s relatives as they come to terms with his passing.
Addressing mourners, Okpebholo encouraged Nigerians, particularly government officials, to adopt people-oriented leadership and ensure their time in public service produces meaningful results.
According to the governor, Orbih’s demise had highlighted the fleeting nature of life and the importance of making worthwhile contributions before death.
He observed that financial resources, political power, public recognition and individual accomplishments could not exempt anyone from mortality.
The Edo governor further recognised Wike’s assistance to Orbih’s family during their period of mourning.
In his sermon, the Catholic Bishop of Auchi Diocese, Most Rev. Gabriel Dunia, urged citizens to remember that death comes to everyone, irrespective of educational attainment, professional qualifications, political influence or social position.
The ceremony was attended by politicians, friends and other notable personalities who came together to pay tribute to Orbih, who formerly held the position of National Vice-Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party for the South-South zone.
Separately, the Rainbow Coalition, a political bloc associated with Wike, has attracted further support in Rivers State after the Action Alliance announced its decision to back the group.
The party’s state chairman, Dumbari Nwigbarato, revealed the development in Port Harcourt, saying the endorsement was made with the support of the State Executive Committee.
