The Federal Government has announced plans to provide Nigerians with cheaper petrol for one month as part of measures to ease the impact of rising fuel and transportation costs.
The initiative is expected to provide temporary relief to motorists and commuters following the recent increase in petrol prices, which has further raised the cost of transportation and other essential goods.
The move comes amid renewed pressure on households as global energy prices continue to affect domestic fuel costs.
The government has continued to promote alternative energy sources, particularly Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), as part of its long-term strategy to reduce dependence on petrol and lower transportation costs.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier directed the expansion of the National Affordable CNG Transit Programme, with the Federal Government working with state governments and transport operators to ensure that savings from cheaper energy translate into lower fares for Nigerians.
The planned one-month fuel relief is expected to offer temporary support to Nigerians while the government continues to pursue measures aimed at stabilising fuel prices and reducing the wider cost-of-living burden.
