Vice President Kashim Shettima has said the Federal Government will combine governance with political activities as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
Shettima made the remark after meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Lagos, following the President’s return from his foreign trip.
The Vice President said he had remained in regular communication with Tinubu throughout the President’s absence, noting that advances in technology had made it possible for leaders to stay engaged with national affairs regardless of their location.
Shettima also defended some of the economic reforms introduced by the administration, including the removal of the petrol subsidy and the unification of foreign exchange rates.
He acknowledged the economic difficulties facing Nigerians but urged citizens to remain patient, assuring them that the government was working on measures to reduce the impact of the hardship.
According to him, the administration would soon introduce an e-logistics initiative in the North-East involving 10,600 electric tricycles, 300 buses and e-taxis to help reduce transportation costs.
He added that the government was also finalising other interventions aimed at supporting students and vulnerable Nigerians.
Speaking on the political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 elections, Shettima said the administration would not allow political activities to distract it from governing the country.
“Politics is in the air, but we’ll combine politics and governance,” he said.
