Human rights lawyer and political activist Deji Adeyanju has alleged that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, are working in the interest of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.

Adeyanju made the allegation in a post on his X account on Saturday, September 26, claiming that the two opposition politicians were repeating what he described as their political roles during the 2023 presidential election.

He warned Nigerians against voting for Obi and Kwankwaso, arguing that their candidacy would benefit Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adeyanju wrote that the two politicians were working for Tinubu as they allegedly did in 2023, urging voters not to repeat what he described as the mistake of supporting them in the previous election.

Obi and Kwankwaso contested the 2023 presidential election on separate platforms. Obi ran under the Labour Party (LP), while Kwankwaso was the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Tinubu contested on the APC platform and won the election.

Ahead of the 2027 election, Obi and Kwankwaso have now joined forces under the NDC, with Obi as the presidential candidate and Kwankwaso as his running mate.

Adeyanju’s comments come amid renewed political discussions surrounding the opposition and the emerging alliances ahead of the next general election.

The allegation also follows Obi’s recent remarks in Enugu, where he said he would not insult or disrespect Tinubu despite their political differences, noting that the President deserves respect as the country’s leader.

Obi maintained that he had never resorted to insulting the President, distinguishing his approach to political disagreement from personal attacks.

Adeyanju’s claim remains an allegation, and his post did not establish evidence that Obi and Kwankwaso were coordinating their political activities with Tinubu.
