The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC),Omoyele Sowore, has promised to introduce a ₦500,000 monthly living minimum wage for Nigerian workers if elected president in the 2027 general elections.
Sowore also pledged to provide 24-hour electricity, free education, affordable housing and stronger social protection for Nigerians under an AAC-led government.
The AAC candidate made the promises while outlining his party’s agenda for the 2027 presidential election, saying the programme was focused on justice, equal rights and a fairer distribution of the country’s wealth.
According to him, Nigerian workers cannot continue to earn what he described as starvation wages while political office holders receive huge salaries and allowances.
Sowore said his administration would also prioritise the provision of uninterrupted electricity, arguing that Nigeria could not build a strong industrial economy while businesses and households continued to depend heavily on generators.
He further promised free and accessible education at all levels, saying no child should be denied education because of their parents’ financial situation.
On housing, the AAC candidate said his government would construct one million public mixed-income homes while reforming tenancy laws to reduce the burden of advance rent payments on Nigerians.
He also promised to make healthcare more accessible, industrialise the economy, expand agricultural production and processing, rebuild infrastructure and create more employment opportunities.
Sowore said his administration would equally reform the security sector by improving the welfare and compensation of security personnel and deploying modern technology to tackle insecurity.
He further pledged to intensify the fight against corruption and recover public funds allegedly stolen by political office holders.
The AAC candidate described his political agenda as an alternative to the policies of the major political parties, saying his party would focus on workers, public services and equitable distribution of national resources.
Sowore is seeking the presidency for the third consecutive time under the AAC, having previously contested the position in the 2019 and 2023 elections.
As political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 presidential election, the AAC candidate said he was confident that growing dissatisfaction over the economy, insecurity, unemployment and poor public services would increase support for his party.
