Former South-East spokesperson to President Bola Tinubu, Denge Josef Onoh, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to formally join the All Progressives Congress (APC) or withdraw from the party’s internal affairs ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Onoh made the call in a statement, accusing Wike’s political group, known as the “Rainbow Coalition,” of posing a threat to the APC’s structure and chances in the 2027 elections.
He described the coalition as a political arrangement driven by personal interests, arguing that it lacked the strength and grassroots structures of the G5 governors’ alliance that played a significant role in the 2023 elections.
According to Onoh, the current coalition comprises former office holders and political figures without significant electoral influence in their respective constituencies.
He also accused Wike of attempting to weaken the APC by engaging in disagreements with some governors of the ruling party, including AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State and Hope Uzodimma of Imo State.
Onoh warned that such political disputes could undermine the APC’s grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 presidential and legislative elections.
He further criticised any strategy that encourages voters to support President Tinubu for the presidency while backing opposition candidates for National Assembly positions.
The former presidential spokesman said such an arrangement could cost the APC its legislative majority if voters split their support between the ruling party and opposition candidates.
Onoh therefore urged Wike to make his political position clear by formally registering as an APC member or stepping aside from the party’s internal affairs.
He said the APC must remain united and focused on securing victory in the 2027 elections.
