2027: OK Movement DG Peter Ameh Resigns to Pursue Senate Ambition

The crisis within the OK Movement has taken a fresh turn following the resignation of its Director-General, Peter Ameh, who stepped down from the position with immediate effect.

Ameh announced his resignation in Abuja on Tuesday, explaining that he needed to devote more time and energy to his campaign for the Kogi East Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general election.

He is contesting the senatorial seat on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), the same political platform on which Peter Obi is seeking the presidency.

In his resignation letter, Ameh said his decision was primarily motivated by the need to concentrate on his own political ambition ahead of the 2027 elections. He maintained that his resignation should not be interpreted as a withdrawal of support for the political ideals promoted by the movement.

Ameh also reaffirmed his support for Peter Obi, whom he described as his political leader. He expressed appreciation for Obi’s leadership, integrity and credibility, which he said had inspired the formation and development of the OK Movement.

The former Director-General further indicated that he was prepared to accept whoever Obi chooses to appoint as his successor, signalling his willingness to support the movement despite his departure from its leadership.

The resignation comes at a sensitive period for the OK Movement, which has been working to mobilise supporters and establish political structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group emerged as a political platform associated with the Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso camps following efforts to bring their supporters together around a common political project.

The movement has been involved in mobilisation activities aimed at building grassroots support and strengthening the political structure surrounding the Obi-Kwankwaso agenda.

However, recent disagreements within the organisation have raised questions about its leadership and internal cohesion.

Ameh’s resignation therefore adds another development to the political group’s ongoing internal challenges, although he has maintained that his decision is based on his senatorial ambition rather than a rejection of the movement’s objectives.

His departure also means the movement will have to appoint another person to coordinate its activities at a time when political parties and groups are intensifying preparations for the 2027 elections.

The development is likely to attract further attention as supporters assess the future direction of the movement and the impact of its leadership changes on its mobilisation efforts.

Meanwhile, Ameh is expected to concentrate on his Kogi East senatorial campaign as the 2027 election approaches.

Despite leaving his position as Director-General, he has stated that he remains committed to the ideals that brought members of the movement together and wishes the organisation success in its future activities.
