Former Lagos State House of Assembly member, Hon. Jude Idimogu, has expressed concern over the reported vandalisation of the residence of All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Joe Igbokwe, in Nnewi, Anambra State.
Idimogu described the incident as disturbing and unacceptable, saying Igbokwe appeared to be paying a heavy price for his years of political service and commitment to the country.
The former lawmaker said the reported vandalisation was particularly worrying because it was not the first time Igbokwe’s property in Nnewi had allegedly been targeted.
According to Idimogu, repeated attacks on the residence of a prominent political figure should not be treated as an ordinary incident, especially given the potential security implications.
He called on relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.
Idimogu also appealed to the Lagos State Government and the Federal Government to ensure adequate protection for Igbokwe, stressing that political differences should not expose individuals or their families to threats and attacks.
He said Igbokwe had spent several years contributing to political activities and public affairs, particularly through his involvement in the APC and his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The former lawmaker noted that Igbokwe had also played a role in Lagos politics and had consistently advocated policies and programmes he believed would contribute to national development.
Idimogu condemned any attempt to intimidate political actors through attacks on their homes or property, saying disagreements should be addressed through democratic and legal channels.
He urged political leaders and stakeholders to discourage acts of violence and intimidation, warning that such incidents could undermine peace and democratic participation.
The APC chieftain’s residence in Nnewi has reportedly come under attack on previous occasions, raising concerns among his associates and political allies.
Idimogu said the authorities must ensure that the matter is properly investigated and that those found responsible are brought to justice.
He further appealed to residents and community leaders to support efforts aimed at maintaining peace and security in the area.
The incident comes amid heightened political activities across Nigeria as politicians and political parties continue to strengthen their structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Political disagreements have increasingly featured in public discourse, with stakeholders calling for tolerance and respect for differing political opinions.
Idimogu maintained that no Nigerian should be targeted because of his political beliefs or affiliation, stressing that democracy allows citizens to support different political parties and candidates.
He described Igbokwe as a committed political figure who has continued to contribute to public discussions despite the challenges associated with political participation.
The former lawmaker therefore urged the relevant security agencies to take the reported incident seriously and provide adequate protection for Igbokwe and his property.
He also called on political leaders to promote dialogue and peaceful engagement rather than allowing political disagreements to escalate into confrontation.
The development has renewed concerns about the safety of political actors and the need for stronger security measures as Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 elections.
Idimogu’s comments underline the importance of protecting political participation and ensuring that disagreements are resolved through democratic institutions rather than through threats, intimidation or attacks on property.
