Katsina United FC are mourning the death of newly signed midfielder Ozoh Chinedu, who reportedly passed away after suffering a medical emergency during a pre-season friendly on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
Ozoh was taking part in Katsina United’s warm-up game against Niger Tornadoes at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina when he reportedly became unwell.
He was attended to before being taken to K-Dara Specialist Hospital for further treatment. Despite efforts by medical personnel to save him, the player later died.
Katsina United confirmed the tragic development in a statement released by the club’s Media Directorate on Tuesday.
The club described Ozoh’s death as a devastating blow to his teammates, coaches, management, supporters and the wider football community.
Ozoh had recently joined Katsina United from fellow Northern club Kano Pillars and was preparing to begin the new season with his new team.
The circumstances surrounding his death have not yet been fully established, with the club indicating that more information may emerge from medical authorities, his family or further investigations.
His sudden passing has sent shockwaves through the football community in Katsina and beyond, coming just as the young player was beginning a new chapter in his career.
