Mohamed Salah is on the verge of a move to Turkish side Trabzonspor after the club confirmed it has opened transfer discussions with the Egyptian forward.
According to an official statement released on Tuesday, Salah is expected to arrive at Istanbul Ataturk Airport around noon on Wednesday before travelling to Trabzon later in the day to continue negotiations over a possible transfer.
The 34-year-old became a free agent after bringing an end to his remarkable nine-year stay at Liverpool. During his time at Anfield, he established himself as one of the club’s greatest-ever players, winning the UEFA Champions League, two Premier League titles, and several other major honours.
Salah leaves Liverpool with an outstanding record of 257 goals in 442 appearances across all competitions, making him the third-highest goalscorer in the club’s history. In the Premier League, he found the net 193 times, including 191 goals for Liverpool, placing him fourth on the competition’s all-time scoring chart behind Alan Shearer, Harry Kane, and Wayne Rooney.
Although his final season at Liverpool was less prolific, with seven league goals, Salah remains one of Africa’s most accomplished footballers.
On the international stage, he has scored 66 goals in 119 appearances for Egypt. He also played a key role in helping the Pharaohs reach the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup for the first time since 1934, although they were eventually eliminated by Argentina after surrendering a two-goal advantage.
Before Trabzonspor’s announcement, Salah had also been linked with another Turkish club, Besiktas.
Trabzonspor secured third place in the Turkish Super Lig last season, earning a spot in the UEFA Europa League play-off round after finishing comfortably ahead of Besiktas.
