Former Super Eagles skipper Nwankwo Kanu has celebrated Arsenal’s Premier League triumph after the North London side finally reclaimed the title for the first time in 22 years.

Arsenal officially sealed the 2025/26 league crown on Tuesday evening after Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by Bournemouth.

The Gunners had gone into the week with a two-point advantage over City following their Matchday 37 victory on Monday, knowing any slip from Pep Guardiola’s side would hand them the title.

City’s draw ensured Mikel Arteta’s team moved four points clear at the top ahead of the final round of fixtures on Sunday, with Arsenal now preparing to celebrate the title at Crystal Palace.

The club’s previous Premier League success came during the historic 2003/04 campaign when Arsenal completed the season unbeaten. Kanu was part of that legendary “Invincibles” squad.

During the title-winning season, the Nigerian forward featured in 10 league matches, scoring once and contributing four assists. Having joined Arsenal in 1999, he went on to play 197 games for the club, recording 44 goals and 38 assists before departing in 2004.

Reacting to Arsenal’s latest success, Kanu shared his excitement on X alongside an old photo of himself with the Premier League trophy.

“Arsenal forever. The Gunners worked so hard for this. Difficult but they fought. Very well deserved. Come on you Gunners,” he posted.

After leaving Arsenal, Kanu continued his Premier League journey with West Bromwich Albion and Portsmouth, ending his time in England with 273 league appearances, 54 goals and 29 assists.

Among Nigerian footballers, he remains one of the country’s most experienced Premier League players, ranking behind only Alex Iwobi and Shola Ameobi in total appearances.

Beyond England, Kanu enjoyed a highly decorated career for both club and country. Before moving to Arsenal, he won multiple honours with Ajax, including the Dutch league title, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup.

He later added the UEFA Cup to his collection with Inter Milan and also lifted another FA Cup trophy during his spell with Portsmouth in the 2007/08 season.

On the international stage, Kanu achieved major success with Nigeria, winning the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 1993 and Olympic gold at the Atlanta 1996 Games.
