Players and officials have converged on Lakowe Lakes Golf Club for the Sunshine Developmental Tour Qualifying School, which tees off from April 13 to April 15, 2026, in a 54-hole competition expected to spotlight emerging golf talent in the region.

The event has received an organisational boost with the arrival of Ndung’u David Kitonga and Kihara Benjamin Kuria, who have joined the local organising team, underlining the growing profile of the inaugural qualifying tournament.

A competitive field has been assembled, featuring professional golfers from Ghana, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Gabon, alongside players from the host nation, Nigeria.

Participants will compete for top spots and a chance to progress to the main Sunshine Tour, a pathway considered vital for advancing their professional careers.

According to the Golf Manager at Lakowe, Femi Olagbenro, the tournament represents a key step in the development of professional golf in West Africa, with the potential to connect players to wider international opportunities. He added that plans are in place to make the qualifying school a recurring event at the club, as part of broader efforts to elevate the game across the region.

All eyes are now on Lakowe Lakes Golf Club as it hosts a tournament poised to mark a significant moment in the growth of golf in West Africa.
