Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel has reportedly caught the attention of Turkish champions Galatasaray ahead of the next transfer window, as the Istanbul side looks to strengthen its squad for the new campaign, Turkish publication Fanatik reports.
The reported interest is surprising because the Nigerian defender previously spent over four seasons with Galatasaray’s biggest local rivals, Fenerbahce. During his time there, he featured in 178 matches, scored seven times and registered 15 assists.
He was also part of the Fenerbahce team that lifted the Turkish Cup during the 2022/2023 season before making a move to English side Birmingham City last year.
Galatasaray, who already boast the presence of Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen in their attacking setup, are believed to be searching for reinforcements at right-back. Hungarian international Roland Sallai currently occupies that role, with Wilfried Singo providing backup, but doubts surrounding Singo’s long-term future have reportedly forced the club to consider other options.
Osayi-Samuel has previously been linked with moves within the Turkish league. He was close to completing a switch to Besiktas during the last transfer window, but negotiations eventually broke down before the transfer could be completed.
The 28-year-old defender remains under contract with Birmingham City until the summer of 2028. So far this season, he has featured in 22 matches, providing one assist in 1,242 minutes of playing time.
At the moment, Osayi-Samuel is away with the Nigerian national team in Turkey, where he is taking part in international friendly matches against Iran and Jordan as part of the Super Eagles squad.
