The Nigeria Basketball Federation has announced arrangements to send Nigeria’s female national basketball side, D’Tigress, on a training trip to the United States as part of efforts to adequately prepare the team for forthcoming international championships.
As reported by The Punch, the basketball body explained that the overseas programme is designed to enhance the players’ technical ability, match readiness, and overall teamwork before they compete on the global stage. The exposure is expected to allow the athletes train under improved conditions while competing against strong opposition.
Federation officials disclosed that the planned tour will include a series of exhibition matches as well as intensive practice sessions aimed at strengthening tactical execution and physical conditioning. The camping exercise will also enable the coaching staff to evaluate invited players and determine those best suited for future assignments.
The NBBF further indicated that necessary preparations, including travel logistics and partnerships with organisations based in the United States, are already underway to guarantee a successful training experience.
D’Tigress have consistently remained a dominant force in African women’s basketball, recording impressive performances in continental contests over the years. The federation believes the foreign training exercise will help sustain the team’s competitive edge and improve its performance against top-ranked nations.
The proposed US tour is part of ongoing initiatives by the NBBF to promote the development of women’s basketball in Nigeria while ensuring the national team continues to compete favourably at elite international levels.
