The Local Organising Committee (LOC) has carried out a comprehensive review of all facilities in preparation for the 2026 National Para Games, which will take place from March 26 to April 3 at the MKO Abiola National Stadium Complex in Abuja.
In coordination with the Nigeria Sports Commission, the inspection aimed to confirm that every venue is fully equipped, accessible, and safe for athletes with varying abilities. Organisers paid particular attention to equipment quality, venue accessibility, and overall readiness to host a smooth and inclusive competition.
Fifteen sporting venues were assessed, covering disciplines such as Para Athletics, Wheelchair Basketball, Para Swimming, Para Table Tennis, Para Badminton, Amputee Football, Para Powerlifting, Sitting Volleyball, Wheelchair Tennis, Para Karate, Para Canoe, Para Cycling, Para Soccer, Para Shooting, and Para Taekwondo.
While most facilities were found suitable for competition, minor adjustments were recommended. The Indoor Basketball Hall will receive better lighting and clearer markings, while the swimming pool area will be upgraded with improved lane arrangements, cleaner changing rooms, and more seating and shaded areas.
Venues such as the Velodrome for Para Karate, the Badminton Gymnasium, and the Wheelchair Tennis Courts were cleared without any issues.
The LOC assured that all suggested improvements would be implemented promptly to guarantee a high-quality environment for the athletes. Officials emphasized that the inspections underscore Nigeria’s commitment to promoting para sports, inclusivity, and giving athletes a platform to showcase their determination, talent, and resilience on a national stage.
