Tension At Airport As El-Rufai’s Supporters Foil Arrest Attempt After Return From Egypt
Tension gripped the airport at about 1:30pm on Thursday as supporters of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, blocked security operatives from arresting him shortly after his arrival from Egypt.
The development appeared anticipated, as several vehicles were already lined up outside the airport ahead of his arrival. Moments after he emerged from the terminal, a crowd of loyalists quickly surrounded him and formed a protective barrier.
As security agents attempted to approach, the supporters stood firm and prevented them from gaining access, creating a tense standoff that drew the attention of passengers and airport officials.
El-Rufai was later escorted away by his supporters amid tight security presence, while the reason behind the attempted arrest remained unclear as authorities had yet to issue an official statement at the time of filing this report.
