The upcoming heavyweight clash between British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua and YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul on December 19 at Miami’s Kaseya Centre is shaping up as a high-stakes money fight for both fighters.
For Joshua, it promises to be a career-defining payday, with promoter Eddie Hearn confirming that the former two-time unified heavyweight champion will earn his largest purse ever. Despite the spectacle, Joshua remains focused on his long-term boxing plans beyond the Paul fight. Hearn told the 5 Live Boxing podcast, “This isn’t just about fighting Jake Paul and retiring. We have big plans for 2026. We’ll take this run, pocket a career-high payday, and then get back to serious training next year.”
The bout is scheduled for eight three-minute rounds and is reportedly set to bring in a $100 million purse, with the live stream available on Netflix.
Social media personality Andrew Tate highlighted the financial motivation for Paul, describing the fight as “retirement money” for the YouTuber-turned-boxer. Tate, however, also praised Paul’s bravery for stepping into the ring against a seasoned heavyweight. “I have huge respect for Jake Paul. He believes in himself, and that takes courage. At the very least, this is retirement money for him, but I hope everyone comes out without serious injuries,” Tate said on The Stomping Ground.
Despite the massive financial incentives, UFC star Sean O’Malley expressed concerns about the size and strength gap between the two fighters. On his YouTube channel, he remarked, “Did you see how huge Anthony is? As a friend of Jake’s, I’m genuinely worried. A knockout against someone like that can change your life. Concussions are no joke, and fighting him takes serious courage.”
With such a stark contrast in experience, size, and skill, the December fight is generating buzz not just for the money on the line, but also for the risks involved.
