Bandits Strike Again in Niger State: 20 Farmers, Including Pregnant Women, Abducted Days After School Kidnappings

Just days after more than 300 students and staff were kidnapped from St. Mary Catholic Secondary and Primary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area, bandits have struck again in Niger State, this time targeting local farmers.

On Wednesday, November 26, armed men abducted 20 farmers, including four pregnant women and several children, while they were harvesting rice in Unguwan-Kawo, Erena Ward, Shiroro Local Government Area.

Local sources reported that the attack occurred around 4 p.m., as the farmers worked on their fields. Witnesses described the incident as devastating, adding that it has heightened fear and insecurity in the area, particularly given the unresolved school kidnappings earlier this week.

Community leaders said repeated abductions are disrupting farming activities and threatening livelihoods, leaving residents anxious about the safety of families and workers in rural communities.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the attack, and the fate and location of the kidnapped farmers remain unknown
