Fiorentina have announced Paolo Vanoli as their new manager after parting ways with Stefano Pioli, whose tenure ended following the team’s disastrous start to the Serie A campaign without a single victory.
The 53-year-old tactician returns to the dugout months after leaving Torino, where he spent one season before stepping down in the summer. Vanoli has also managed Spartak Moscow and Venezia in the past.
He now takes charge of a Fiorentina squad languishing at the bottom of the league standings, having collected just four points from ten games — their worst beginning to a Serie A season in history.
Vanoli’s first challenge will be a crucial clash against Genoa on Sunday, as both sides fight to turn their fortunes around.
Fiorentina become the third Serie A outfit to switch managers this season, following Juventus’ decision to appoint Luciano Spalletti in place of Igor Tudor, and Genoa’s move to replace Patrick Vieira with Daniele De Rossi.
