Actress and filmmaker Regina Daniels has appealed to Nigerians to stop attacking her mother, Rita Daniels, amid the ongoing marital crisis between her and Senator Ned Nwoko.
In an emotional video shared on Instagram on Wednesday, Regina dismissed claims that she married Nwoko out of greed, revealing that her family had initially opposed the marriage.
“The main essence of this video is to please stop insulting my mom,” she said. “For some reason, I feel like I owe you all this explanation because I don’t understand why everyone is so pained about my life. But I don’t think it’s from a bad place. You all watched me grow up. You bought my movies with your N200 or N500 and supported me as a child star. So I get it I’m in the limelight, and it’s okay to have opinions. But please, stop insulting my mom.”
Regina described her mother as “the best thing that ever happened” to her, saying Rita Daniels had been strong for years while enduring public criticism.
“She’s my god on earth. My mom held it down for seven years despite all the insults. She tried. It was me I’m the one with the coconut head,” Regina admitted. “I’m ashamed to say this, but I actually fell in love. Everyone warned me my mom, my brothers but I didn’t listen. And no, it wasn’t about money. We were not broke. What could a man possibly give a mother to hand over the child who takes care of her entire family?”
The actress also made a heartbreaking revelation, saying the pressure surrounding her marriage once pushed her to contemplate suicide.
“I was a blessing to my mom God used me to uplift her, and it’s my duty to make sure she’s always happy,” she said tearfully. “She suffered for us. She’s the best woman on earth. Everyone tried to stop me from marrying Ned, but I was determined. One night, I even drove out, ready to end my life if I couldn’t marry him. My brothers were looking for me, breaking bottles, and fighting. I went to the police station myself and said, ‘Arrest me. My family doesn’t want me to marry the love of my life.’”
Despite the turmoil, Regina expressed that she still cares for and respects her estranged husband, Ned Nwoko, but is now focused on her children, Munir and Khalifa.
“I still care and respect him that’s love,” she said. “The only reason I’m not fighting you, Ned, is because I want our sons to have a strong father’s name. But I’ll fight for them. I’ll raise them with or without your support.”
She added that the ongoing crisis had deeply affected her family, but she remains hopeful they will overcome it.
“My family is in turmoil right now, but we’ll come out of it stronger,” she affirmed. “Seeing my family and supporters rally around me gave me the courage to speak out. I’ll fight for my children. I’ve tried to stay calm, but now I’ll do whatever it takes to protect them.”
Regina’s emotional video comes weeks after reports surfaced in October that she accused Senator Nwoko of physically assaulting her allegations he denied, claiming her actions were influenced by substance use.
