The Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Ajao Adewale, has confirmed the tragic death of Arise News anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, who lost her life during an armed robbery incident at her Katampe residence on Monday.

According to reports, Maduagwu, popularly known as Sommie, jumped from the top floor of her three-storey apartment in a desperate attempt to escape the attackers. Vigilantes in the compound said she was found unconscious after landing on the cemented floor and was immediately rushed to the hospital.

Speaking on the incident on Arise TV, CP Adewale explained that police officers arrived at the scene to find Maduagwu unconscious. “She was immediately taken to Maitama General Hospital, where doctors attempted to resuscitate her using CPR, but sadly, she could not make it,” he said.

The commissioner disclosed that the armed robbers had invaded Unique Apartments, a three-storey twin building with 18 flats located around the Gishiri axis of Katampe under the Mabushi Division. During the attack, one of the private security guards on duty, who attempted to resist the robbers, sustained a gunshot wound.

“In the panic that followed, Maduagwu, who lived on the top floor, jumped down from the building. The consequences were tragic and very unfortunate,” Adewale added.

He further revealed that a special investigation team, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation), has been set up to track down the perpetrators. “We have all tactical units involved, and the leads we are getting are already being worked on. No stone will be left unturned until the perpetrators are brought to justice,” he assured.

The FCT Police Command extended condolences to the family of the deceased, the Arise News team, and Nigerians mourning the loss. “We commiserate with the family of Sommie, the Arise News family, and Nigerians deeply touched by this ugly and disturbing incident,” the commissioner stated.
