In a heartwarming show of solidarity and community support, Kenyans from all walks of life rallied behind TikTok sensation Kaluma, who has captured national attention with his candid documentation of rural life and his efforts to care for his ailing father.
On Sunday, September 28, dozens of content creators, influencers, and well-wishers travelled to Chinga village in Nyeri County to show support for the young man, popularly known as Kaluma Boy. His story—marked by struggle, resilience, and filial devotion—has touched the hearts of many across the country.
Kaluma, who began documenting his village life on TikTok in early 2024, has openly shared the challenges of caring for his father, who suffered a debilitating stroke last year. From expensive medication and physiotherapy to basic daily needs, the burden of caregiving has been immense. His honesty and vulnerability online have earned him admiration, sympathy, and widespread support.
Following an online fundraiser set up via paybill, Kenyans responded generously, donating cash and resources to help Kaluma and his family. During Sunday’s visit, a convoy of TikTok influencers, church leaders, and public figures arrived bearing gifts, cash donations, and emotional support—leaving the Kaluma household overwhelmed with gratitude.
In the wake of this outpouring of support, fellow TikToker Bantu Girl has publicly offered to host Kaluma in Nairobi. In a now-viral video, she stated that her home has an extra room and that she is more than willing to help him transition to life in the city.
“Hello, Kaluma’s family. So, I am making this video, and I am glad for him. I saw that this young man is coming to Nairobi. I wondered why I should not host him, yet I have an extra room,” she said. “My place is very quiet and conducive, and he will feel at home.”
Bantu Girl also added that her home is located just 10 minutes from the CBD, making it a convenient place for Kaluma as he begins exploring new opportunities in the city. She further expressed interest in helping Kaluma manage his new-found finances.
“He deserves to stay here with me. I also saw that he is young and does not know how to manage money. I can help manage his money. I will safely keep his money. We can live together and build together,” she offered.
Her proposal has sparked mixed reactions online, with some applauding her generosity while others remain cautious about her intentions. Nonetheless, many agree that Kaluma’s story is a powerful reminder of the struggles many young caregivers face—and how digital platforms can amplify voices and attract meaningful support.
As Kaluma prepares for a potential move to Nairobi, his supporters continue to follow his journey closely, hopeful that the opportunities opening up for him will lead to lasting change for him and his family.
