Ademola Lookman’s future remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: Atalanta are refusing to sanction a loan move for the Nigerian forward, despite Bayern Munich’s late push.
The 27-year-old has been at odds with the Italian club over a transfer all summer. With the window set to slam shut in hours, Atalanta insist they will only entertain a full sale for the right price.
Bayern Munich recently joined the hunt after Inter Milan’s offer fell apart, while Premier League sides have also shown interest in the attacker.
“Bayern Munich approach Atalanta for Ademola Lookman. Proposal loan including a sizeable fee plus option to buy at a significant price,” reported David Orstein of The Athletic.
But transfer insiders believe the move is unlikely.
“Atalanta maintain their position for Ademola Lookman: no intention to let the player leave on loan with buy option. Bayern, Tottenham, and Italian clubs are all informed of a permanent deal proposal needed or guaranteed obligation to buy,” Fabrizio Romano explained.
“Bayern Munich enquire for Ademola Lookman. Loan + buy option, and Atalanta would not negotiate. They have no plans to let the player leave on loan with a buy option,” added Nigerian journalist Onyebuchi Onokala.
Reports suggest Bayern’s €28m package falls well short of Atalanta’s €50m valuation.
There may still be a twist, as Sky Sports Germany claim both Tottenham Hotspur and Galatasaray could step in with permanent bids.
Lookman had been promised an exit this summer, but Atalanta ruled out any move to a domestic rival, rejecting Inter Milan’s €42m plus €3m bonus proposal.
Since staging a protest by going absent, the winger has been separated from the main squad and dropped from the team’s first two Serie A games this season.
Lookman is coming off a sensational year in which he scored 20 goals, registered seven assists, and claimed the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award.
