Veteran Nollywood actor, Fabian Adibe, renowned for his memorable role in the classic television adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, has passed away at the age of 81.
His death was confirmed on Wednesday by journalist and movie producer, Seun Oloketuyi, who revealed in a social media post that the actor died peacefully around 2:30 am on August 20, 2025.
Born in December 1943, Adibe carved a niche for himself in both theatre and television. In 1965, he proudly led Nigeria’s delegation to its first Commonwealth Arts Festival, showcasing the country’s rich culture to the world. Over two decades later, in 1987, he launched his professional acting career with the acclaimed TV series Things Fall Apart.
In the series, he portrayed Ogbuefi Uzowulu alongside the legendary Pete Edochie, captivating audiences with his calm presence, deep voice, and commanding delivery. His performance earned him recognition as one of the foundational figures of Nollywood’s golden era.
Beyond acting, Fabian Adibe was celebrated for his humility and quiet strength, qualities that endeared him to colleagues and fans alike. His contributions to Nigerian arts and cinema remain a lasting legacy.
