Nigerian music legend, Innocent Idibia widely known as 2Baba has issued a heartfelt apology following public backlash over his recent comments on male sexuality and monogamy.
In a widely circulated episode of the 234 Mzansi podcast hosted by Nedu Wazobia and others, 2Baba sparked controversy when he stated that men are not biologically wired to remain sexually faithful to one woman, even when they love and respect her.
“I’ve said this before and got into trouble, but I’ll say it again: man was not built to be sexually with just one woman,” the 49-year-old said on the podcast.
The remarks drew sharp criticism from fans and the public alike, prompting 2Baba to share an apology video on his Instagram page on Tuesday. In the video, he admitted that his words were poorly chosen and that he takes full responsibility for the fallout.
“I know I’m going to get cancelled… I’m ready to face the consequences. I messed up,” he said. He went on to publicly apologize to his wife, Natasha Osawaru, and his children for being drawn into the controversy.
“She’s amazing, smart, and wonderful… I’m so sorry,” he said of Natasha. “And to my kids they’re beautiful, young people. They don’t deserve to be involved in this.”
2Baba also expressed regret for disappointing his fans, his parents, and the many people who have supported him over the years. “This is not who I am… I’m terribly sorry for letting myself get to that point. I own up to my mistakes,” he added.
During the podcast, the singer also revealed that his marriage to actress Annie Idibia has officially ended. While he declined to go into deep details, he said the decision was mutual.
“We both gave it our best… it just wasn’t working anymore. That’s the simple truth,” he explained, urging couples to be honest with themselves rather than remain in unhappy relationships for the sake of public opinion.
“Many people have gone to their graves living in bondage,” he said.
Despite the controversy, 2Baba acknowledged the role each woman in his life has played, praising Annie and the mothers of his children as “amazing” individuals with unique strengths.
Speaking on his current relationship with Natasha, he emphasized that their bond is rooted in character and emotional depth, not physical appearance.
“If any woman disrespects me or does rubbish, I will walk away,” he declared, adding that he’s focused on protecting his peace and prioritizing the wellbeing of his children over public opinion.
