Renowned Nigerian music legend Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has opened up for the first time about his separation from his wife, actress Annie Macaulay-Idibia, after more than a decade of marriage.
In a recent episode of the 234 Mzansi Podcast released on Monday, the 49-year-old artist shared emotional reflections on their split, although he chose not to disclose full details.
2Baba and Annie, who tied the knot in May 2012, officially parted ways in January 2025 following years of highs and lows many of which unfolded under public scrutiny.
“We both gave it our best,” 2Baba stated. “Why we’re no longer together is something I won’t discuss publicly. Me and her have our own understanding. She’s amazing it just wasn’t working anymore.”
The singer emphasized that while it’s important to fight for one’s marriage, people should not remain in unions that have become toxic or unfulfilling.
“I believe couples should try to fix their issues. But if it’s beyond repair, no one should be forced to stay. Only those inside the marriage know what they’re truly feeling. Don’t torture yourself because of societal pressure. Many people have lived and died unhappy because of that.”
He also stirred conversation with his controversial views on male sexuality, saying it is biologically difficult for men to remain sexually committed to one partner.
“I’ll speak for myself biologically, a man is not built to be sexually exclusive to one woman. His love and loyalty can be with one woman, but sexually, it’s hard. Some men choose not to act on it, but it’s a real struggle. Accepting this could save people from a lot of heartbreak and stress.”
Meanwhile, 2Baba appears to have moved on. He is now in a relationship with Natasha Osawaru, a member of the Edo State House of Assembly. Their relationship was confirmed in February 2025, after the singer proposed to her, ushering in a new chapter in his personal life.
