Reality TV star and influencer Natasha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has ignited widespread conversations online following her blunt remarks about the financial hardships many Nigerians face while living in the United Kingdom.
In a now-viral video, the former Big Brother Naija housemate currently based in the UK challenged the common belief among Nigerians back home that relocating abroad guarantees financial success.
“There’s this inferiority complex in Nigeria where people assume everyone overseas is rich,” she said. “But the most financially unstable people I’ve met are actually here in the UK. Everyone is just trying to stay afloat, it’s expensive.”
Tacha highlighted the high cost of living as a key reason many immigrants struggle, painting a stark contrast to the glamorous lifestyle often portrayed on social media.
“Living here is far from rosy,” she continued. “In fact, a lot of people in Nigeria are doing better than some people abroad.”
She also advised Nigerians considering relocation to approach the decision with clear eyes and realistic expectations.
“If you want to move, that’s fine but don’t come with the mindset that life here is easy,” she warned. “You could spend ₦300,000 on transport in a single day or over ₦1 million on a car in one week, unless you’re taking public transit. Think it through.”
Tacha’s unfiltered take has sparked debate across social media, with many praising her honesty while others weighed in on the complex realities of life abroad.
