- A resurfaced clip of Maje Ayida, fitness entrepreneur and ex-husband of Nigerian media personality Toke Makinwa, has reignited public interest in their widely publicised divorce.
The video, recorded during a church service at Harvesters, shows Ayida speaking candidly about the emotional aftermath of the split, describing a period marked by shame, isolation, and deep personal struggle.
“I went through a divorce that kept me in the press constantly. It was very public, and it left me feeling completely alone. I withdrew from society. I was ashamed of the situation, of how it impacted my self-esteem, and of what I felt I had done to my family name. Legacy matters to me,” he said.
Ayida, who was married to Makinwa for nearly three years before their eventual separation in 2017, shared that the fallout affected both his mental health and career. He revealed that he struggled with depression, lost motivation, and faced professional setbacks as he tried to cope.
“I went into hiding. I didn’t want to see or speak to anyone. I lost all drive,
I had no incentive to get up in the morning. I missed out on opportunities and business deals because I was living in hopelessness. For a year, I checked out of life just to regroup,” he added.
The resurfaced clip has sparked renewed conversation on social media, especially in light of previous statements from Makinwa about the circumstances surrounding their divorce.
In a 2024 episode of her YouTube show Toke Moments, Makinwa recalled discovering that Ayida had fathered a child with another woman while they were still married. She recounted how, after confessing, he casually asked what she had made for dinner—a moment that left many viewers stunned and reignited debates around the emotional weight of their split.
