The Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebu land, Oba Sikiru Adetona, was notably absent at the 2025 Ojude Oba festival held on Sunday in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
The annual cultural event, which takes place three days after Eid-el-Kabir, is known for its colorful displays of traditional attire, horse riding, and homage paid to the Awujale by the Ijebu people and visitors alike.
For decades, Oba Adetona has presided over the celebration, receiving tributes from dignitaries and cultural groups. However, this year, he was represented by his wife, Olori Kemi Adetona.
While no official reason has been given for his absence, a reliable source revealed that the 91-year-old monarch stayed away due to age-related concerns. A senior state government official also confirmed that his absence was not due to any health crisis but simply the result of advancing age.
Attempts to reach the Coordinator of the 2025 Ojude Oba Festival, Fassy Yusuf, were unsuccessful as calls to his phone went unanswered, and messages had not been returned as of the time of this report.
