Fast-rising street-pop sensation Ayo Maff has credited Fireboy DML for playing a pivotal role in his breakout success. In an interview on Trending, Ayo Maff described the collaboration on the remix of his hit single Dealer as a turning point in his career.
“Without Fireboy, there would be no Ayo Maff because he gave me exactly what I needed,” the singer said. “Thank God, and thank you to Fireboy.”
Fireboy’s verse on the remix helped propel Dealer to massive commercial success. The track was declared the biggest song on Spotify Nigeria in 2024 and marked a major milestone in Ayo Maff’s rise to national recognition.
Since the release of Dealer, Ayo Maff has solidified his place in the Nigerian music scene as one of the emerging voices shaping the future of street music. Known for his gritty storytelling and raw sound, his music reflects the reality of life on the streets, often touching on issues such as poverty, police brutality, and daily hustles.
Interestingly, Ayo Maff revealed that Fireboy’s contribution came as a complete surprise. “I never expected him to jump on the verse,” he said.
The song not only brought him widespread attention but also earned him a nomination for the prestigious Headies Next Rated award. He has since performed at major venues, including a standout appearance at London’s O2 Arena, where he opened for Grammy-nominated Afrobeats star Asake—a moment Ayo Maff says he had long envisioned.
Recognised by Spotify as one of the artists to watch in 2025, Ayo Maff is now preparing for the release of his debut album, The Prince of The Street, a project that aims to further cement his voice as a leading force in contemporary Nigerian street music.
