An explosion occurred on Monday afternoon, May 26, 2025, along the Mararaba-Nyanya bypass in Abuja, injuring one person and prompting a swift response from security agencies.

According to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, the incident happened at approximately 2:50 PM. Officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit were immediately deployed to the scene. The affected area was cordoned off to ensure public safety and facilitate a thorough investigation.

Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh stated that one male victim was rescued at the scene and promptly taken to the hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention. A comprehensive investigation, including detailed forensic analysis, has commenced to ascertain the exact cause and nature of the explosion.

The FCT Police Command has urged members of the public to remain calm and go about their lawful activities without fear, as there is currently no cause for alarm. Residents are also encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons, objects, or movements to the nearest police station or contact the Command through the following emergency lines: 08032003913, 08028940883, 07057337653.

This incident adds to a series of explosions in the Abuja area in recent years. For instance, in March 2025, a fuel tanker explosion near Karu Bridge in Nyanya resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries, highlighting ongoing concerns about safety in the region.

Authorities continue to investigate the current incident and are expected to provide updates as more information becomes available.
