The collision involved seven vehicles: a white DAF truck (registration number T14007LA), a Toyota Hiace bus (AGL752YC), a Honda saloon car (HET680), a Nissan Pickup van (STF10204), two Bajaj motorcycles (AGG448Q and PKA214WS), and another white DAF truck without visible registration details.
The crash resulted in 18 victims, including 12 male adults, five female adults, and one female child. Of these, 17 lost their lives—11 male adults, five female adults, and the child—while only one person survived with injuries.
The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, expressed deep sorrow over the deaths, including that of an emergency worker who was responding to the crash. He extended his condolences to the families of the victims and urged motorists to prioritize vehicle maintenance and follow speed limits to prevent such tragedies in the future.
Mohammed emphasized that the FRSC is committed to the safety of all road users and stressed the importance of responsible driving. He highlighted the devastating consequences of speeding and reiterated that the FRSC cannot afford to lose more lives on Nigerian roads.
Regarding the driver responsible for the crash, Mohammed assured that legal action would be taken as part of the ongoing effort to hold accountable those involved in fatal accidents. He called for continued collaboration among all road users, including motorists, pedestrians, and the public, in the fight against speed limit violations.
