Afrobeats icon Davido recently opened up about his lavish wedding to Chioma Adeleke, calling it a global celebration that felt like a holiday in Nigeria.
In a recent interview on the Bootleg Kev podcast, Davido shared memories from his wedding day and the overwhelming turnout of people from around the world who came to celebrate their union.
“This is a solid, bound union now; we had a whole wedding and invited people from all over the world to celebrate with us,” he said.
He compared the wedding festivities to the fictional, vibrant African country of ‘Zamunda,’ saying, “The wedding was in Nigeria; it was like some crazy Zamunda stuff—mad crazy. It felt like a holiday in Nigeria, and it was one of the best days of my life. People flew in from all over to celebrate us.”
The wedding, held in Lagos on June 25, 2024, was an extravagant affair attended by celebrities, politicians, and dignitaries from around the globe. The couple’s pre-wedding photos, shared with the hashtag #CHIVIDO2024, captured the attention of fans and built excitement for the event.
The ceremony featured performances by top artists such as Chike, Fireboy DML, Olamide, Mayorkun, Zlatan, Nasboi, and King Sunny Ade, further adding to the celebration. The couple was also surprised with a brand-new white car as a wedding gift from a car company.
Reflecting on the importance of the day, Davido spoke about the need to protect their union, acknowledging the vulnerabilities that come with being in the public eye.
“I feel like a lot of public figures are very vulnerable, and we have to be careful,” he said, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding their relationship.
