Nollywood’s Obsession with BBL is Fleeting, Says Ayo Adesanya

Veteran Nollywood actress Ayo Adesanya has expressed her concerns about the growing trend of artificial beauty enhancements, particularly Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), in the Nigerian movie industry.

In a recent interview with The Nation Newspaper, Adesanya warned that this trend may not be sustainable in the long run, citing the constant nature of change in the industry.She said, “I realised that people take the mundane things seriously these days, so it’s always the artificial that is selling.

“But if you check it very well, there are still some people who are into originality. So, it is now left to you as an actor to decide on what you want to do because a few years from now, BBL may not work again because change is constant. There were a lot of things before now, so time changes everything.

“I feel that if you’re talented, artificial things like that should not move you. When you have something that you have to offer, you will know that your talent is more than BBL.

Adesanya emphasized the importance of talent and substance over superficial attributes, stating that actors should focus on honing their craft rather than relying on artificial enhancements. She noted that not all movies can revolve around physical appearance, specifically mentioning that an overemphasis on physical attributes like the buttocks is limiting.

The actress reflected on the ever-changing nature of trends in Nollywood, pointing out that what is currently in vogue may soon become outdated. Adesanya encouraged actors to prioritize their talent and originality, recognizing that these qualities will ultimately endure despite the fleeting nature of trends.

Adesanya’s comments come from a place of personal experience and resilience. Earlier this month, she opened up about her 10-year abusive relationship, which had a profound impact on her life and led to struggles with alcoholism. Her willingness to speak candidly about her experiences and offer guidance to her colleagues underscores her commitment to promoting substance and talent in Nollywood.
