George Washington University has officially named Nigerian-American athlete Ganiyat Adeduntan as the head coach of its women’s basketball team.
Prior to this role, Adeduntan served as the head coach of Colgate University’s women’s basketball team, a position she held until her recent appointment was made public last week.
Her time at Colgate, from 2021 to 2025, was marked by significant achievements. Under her leadership, the team recorded consecutive 20-win seasons and set a new school benchmark with 23 victories during the 2024/2025 campaign.
Before taking charge at Colgate, Adeduntan was part of George Washington University’s coaching staff, serving as an assistant coach between 2017 and 2021. She played a key role in the team’s success, contributing to an Atlantic 10 Conference title and securing a spot in the NCAA Tournament in 2018.
Speaking on her appointment, GWU’s Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics, Michael Lipitz, expressed confidence in Adeduntan’s ability to elevate the women’s basketball program. According to GWSports, the university’s athletic media platform, Lipitz described her as “the ideal leader to restore GW women’s basketball to dominance in the A-10 and on the national stage.”
