Jennifer Adighije, Managing Director of Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited, has called for presidential intervention to address the power sector’s liquidity crisis. She stressed the importance of settling over N4tn owed to power generators and securing funding for ongoing projects to enhance electricity access nationwide.

The MD appealed while hosting the House Committee on Power, led by Chairman Victor Nwokolo, during a site inspection of the Egbema National Integrated Power Project Plant.

The Egbema Power Plant is a key component of the National Integrated Power Project, launched in 2004 under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

In a Friday statement, NDPHC General Manager of Communication & Public Relations, Olufunke Nwankwo, said the inspection aimed to assess the project’s progress and tackle challenges impacting both the project and the wider power sector.

The statement read, On March 27, 2025, NDPHC Managing Director/CEO Jennifer Adighije hosted the House Committee on Power, led by Chairman Hon. Victor Nwokolo, for a site visit to the Egbema NIPP Power Plant.

The inspection focused on evaluating the project’s progress and addressing challenges affecting both the project and the broader power sector.

She highlighted the major challenges in the power sector, particularly a liquidity crisis of over N4tn owed to generation companies. Adighije urged presidential intervention to secure funding for ongoing projects, settle outstanding debts, and enhance electricity access across the country.

During the inspection, she provided a project update, stating that the plant consists of three generating units with a total capacity of 375MW. The contract was awarded to CMEC China Machinery Engineering Company in 2023, with completion expected by year end.

She emphasized that NDPHC is closely tracking the project’s progress to ensure timely completion and reiterated the company’s commitment to supporting the President’s vision for reliable and affordable electricity, strengthening its role in Nigeria’s power sector.

House Committee on Power Chairman, Victor Nwokolo, commended NDPHC’s management for their proactive role in reviving the Egbema Power Plant. He noted that while the project had faced delays due to litigation, the new management and contractor had made significant progress in accelerating its completion.
