Galatasaray’s prolific striker, Victor Osimhen, is reportedly in contention for Saturday’s crucial Istanbul derby against Besiktas, despite concerns over a possible injury sustained during international duty, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Osimhen recently starred for Nigeria in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, scoring three goals across two matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe. However, he was substituted in the final five minutes of the game against Zimbabwe in Uyo after picking up a knock, raising doubts about his availability for the weekend’s derby.
A vital part of Galatasaray’s title charge this season, Osimhen’s potential absence would be a huge blow for coach Okan Buruk, who remains hopeful that his star forward will be fit in time for the showdown. The club is closely monitoring his condition ahead of the fixture.
Turkish football journalist Yakup Çınar, reporting via Haber Sariki Mizi, indicated that both Osimhen and Davinson Sánchez are considered fit to play. However, the final decision will rest with the club’s medical team.
“I have received information that Osimhen and Sánchez are in good shape for the Beşiktaş-Galatasaray derby. However, the medical board will have the final say. Yunus Akgün is also available for selection,” Çınar revealed.
Buruk and the Galatasaray faithful will be hoping that Osimhen is fully recovered, as his presence could be the key to securing victory over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
Osimhen has been in outstanding form this season, leading the Turkish Super Lig scoring charts with 20 goals and four assists in 22 league appearances. Since joining on loan from Napoli, he has played a crucial role in Galatasaray’s push for a record-extending 25th league title. The club currently tops the standings, holding a commanding 27-point lead over fourth-placed Besiktas.
