During a recent appearance on a Twitch stream hosted by alternative music star and content creator Cruel Santino, Davido shared the meaning behind the title of his upcoming album, 5ive. The album title was chosen to mark the milestone of his fifth LP.
The five-time Grammy nominee explained that after the success of his previous works—the Time Trilogy (A Good Time, A Better Time, and Timeless)—it was time to move forward with something new. While the title 5ive doesn’t carry any deep symbolic meaning, Davido hinted that researching the number 5 might offer a more profound perspective.
In preparation for the album, Davido recently released a new single titled Be There Still, which dropped on March 14, 2025. The track features an upbeat Amapiano log drum fusion mixed with both English and Pidgin. With the song, Davido reaffirms his position as a superstar who remains at the top of his game.
The highly anticipated 5ive album is set to release on April 18, 2025. This year is already shaping up to be a busy one for Davido. He secured his fifth Grammy nomination at the 67th Grammys, where he was nominated for Best African Song Performance for his collaboration with Chris Brown on Sensational. He’s also been nominated in five categories, including Artist of the Year, at the upcoming 17th Headies, further solidifying his legacy as one of the most decorated artists in the award show’s history.
Ahead of the album release, Davido has already treated fans to two singles: Awuke, featuring Jamaican dancehall star YG Marley, and Funds, a collaboration with Chike and OdumoduBlvck. In an announcement on social media, the hitmaker described 5ive as an album that comes straight from the heart.
Fans can also look forward to a collaboration with Nigerian superstar Omah Lay, who has teased that their song together is a perfect partnership. Additionally, Adekunle Gold hinted at a possible guest feature on the album, further fueling anticipation for what is expected to follow in the footsteps of his record-breaking Timeless album.
