The Headies Academy has announced a change in the date for the 17th edition of the prestigious award ceremony due to unforeseen circumstances. The new date for the event has been moved from April 5th to Sunday, April 27th, 2025. The Academy shared this update through its official social media platforms on March 22, explaining that the decision was made in order to ensure a more fitting ceremony for all stakeholders.
The statement reads, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, we regret to announce that the 17th Headies has been rescheduled from April 5th to Sunday, April 27th, 2025. We understand that many of you may have already made arrangements for the original date, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please know that our commitment to delivering an exceptional experience at The Headies remains unwavering. We are excited to bring you an unforgettable evening of music, glamour, and excitement on April 27th. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.”
This change means the award ceremony, which had previously been held in the United States for the past two editions, will return to Nigeria for the 17th edition. The nominations for the upcoming ceremony were previously revealed, with artists like Rema, OdumoduBlvck, Tems, and Ayra Starr leading the list. However, the nominations have sparked reactions, particularly due to notable omissions and concerns over the apparent violation of the Headies’ own guidelines with the inclusion of ineligible materials.
In a recent interview, Headies Executive Producer Mr. Ayo Animashaun expressed his concerns over the diminishing support for the award, noting that the Grammy Awards had gained more prominence in Nigeria. With the 17th edition approaching, the Headies Academy now faces the challenge of restoring public trust and industry support for Nigeria’s most esteemed music award.
