The Ekiti State Government has sanctioned a contract valued at N7,642,981,521.50 for the construction of an Indoor Sports Hall within the state.
The Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, revealed that the contract was awarded to Messrs Aron Nigeria Limited, with a completion timeline of 52 weeks.
In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, Olatunbosun outlined key resolutions from the State Executive Council meeting held the previous day.
The commissioner noted that the project is designed to engage and empower the state’s youth through various sporting activities, demonstrating the administration’s dedication to sports development.
Additionally, the council approved N2.2 billion for clearing 1,300 hectares of land as part of ongoing efforts to expand mechanized farming.
Olatunbosun explained that the project, set for completion within three months, aims to prepare the land for crop cultivation in the current farming season.
He listed the areas earmarked for land clearing, including sites under the “Bring Back the Youth in Agriculture” initiative at Ose Emure, Gede, Iyemero, Omuo Ekiti, Egbe Ekiti, Ayede Isan, Ogotun Ekiti, and Ise Ekiti.
Other locations include the Youth under Promise Point Partnership farms at Iyemero, Iyemero Farm Settlement, Gede Farm Settlement P.F.D in Gede, Eporo Farm Settlement in Eporo, and another Gede Farm Settlement P.F.D.
Furthermore, the EXCO granted approval for a N144.3 million contract to procure Japan-customized agricultural tools for youths participating in the “Bring Back the Youth to Agriculture” program, aimed at boosting food production in the state.
The commissioner specified that the tools to be provided include 902 sets of customized raincoats, 902 sets of customized rain boots, and various other agricultural implements to support the beneficiaries.
The “Bring Back the Youth to Agriculture” initiative, developed in partnership with YSJ Farms Limited, seeks to empower young individuals by engaging them in commercial agriculture, fostering food security, and driving economic growth in the state.
