Bambo Akani, the Founder and CEO of Making of Champions, stated on Wednesday that 2,056 athletes have enrolled to take part in the MTN Champs Season 3, which is set to be hosted in Benin.
During a press briefing ahead of the three-day athletics championship, Akani mentioned that the inaugural season of the competition was also hosted in Benin, leading to the discovery of exceptional talents.
He further stated that some of these gifted athletes have secured full scholarships in various universities across the United States. Confident in their abilities, he expressed his belief that these young athletes will bring honor to Nigeria in international competitions.
Also speaking at the event, Osaze Ebueku, Senior Manager of Sponsorship and Go-To-Market (GTM) at MTN, emphasized the company’s dedication to identifying raw talents and refining them into world-class champions. He stressed that MTN is in it for the long run, collaborating with partners to raise the standard of athletics in Nigeria.
“Success is best achieved when you embark on a long journey with the right partners. The fact that Edo State is actively involved in this initiative highlights its importance. We are here to continue the mission of talent discovery and development,” Ebueku stated.
Representing Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, the Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Amadin Enabulele, reaffirmed the administration’s strong commitment to grassroots sports development.
He noted that, as a demonstration of the government’s support for youth sports and MTN’s initiative, the governor had approved the use of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, along with other necessary logistics, to ensure the smooth execution of the event.
“The Governor has tasked us with scouting for young talents across every part of the state, and events like this play a crucial role in that vision,” he added.
