The Imo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with separate child trafficking cases. The police also rejected a N1 million bribe offer from one of the suspects.
According to the police spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, the first suspect, Confidence Odoh, 32, was arrested on February 4, 2025, for allegedly abducting her ex-neighbor’s three-year-old son, Nzubechi Udodiri. The boy was rescued and reunited with his parents.
In another development, operatives of the Safer Highway Unit arrested Eze Chika, 45, on February 21, 2025, while conducting a stop-and-search along the Owerri-Aba express road. Chika was found with a suspected stolen four-year-old child and admitted to purchasing the child from a suspected trafficking syndicate in Aba for N1.8 million.
Chika offered the police operatives a N1 million bribe, which was rejected outright. The police are working to identify the child’s biological parents and have vowed to fight child trafficking and other crimes in the state.
The police spokesperson reiterated the importance of vigilance, especially among parents, and urged residents to report suspicious activities to the police.
