The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to rescue the abducted female students of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University in Makurdi, Benue State.

According to NANS National Public Relations Officer, Samson Adeyemi, the kidnapping is “barbaric” and a “dent in the security architecture of the country.” He emphasized that universities should be safe spaces for learning and that the rights of students must be protected.

Adeyemi urged students to remain calm, assuring them that efforts are being made to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted students. He also called on the Inspector General of Police to deploy resources to rescue the students.

The university management has confirmed that three students were kidnapped, although students claim that four were taken. The incident has sparked widespread concern, with students staging a protest on Wednesday to demand the students’ safe return.

In a related development, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has ordered the rescue of 20 medical students abducted in Otukpo, Benue State.”I am appealing to students to remain calm. The NANS headquarters will liaise with with necessary quarters to ensure safe rescue of the abducted students”
